Cash’s Cake Smash

Since I started thinking about Cash’s first birthday months ago, I’ve had a vision in my head for his birthday photos.  I figured since my child crushes food anytime you set something in front of him, that he was going to absolutely demolish a birthday cake. I mean what kid doesn’t want to stick there hands in a big fluffy white cake topped with delicious creamy cool whip frosting? Not mine! If you know Cash personally, well then you’re just as shocked as we were.

However, he is only 11 months old and had so much fun taking photos with Mary Grace from mgjohnson Photography! Mary Grace is a co worker and was so patient and calm with Cash during our photoshoot.  I jumped around like a crazy lady in the back trying to make him laugh for an hour straight.  Photographing  mobile babies is not an easy task!

Just recently, Cash started absolutely hating when I change his clothes. It’s almost like he’s too busy playing and wants nothing to do with it.  So I kept his wardrobe for this shoot simple!  And I’m so glad I did so that we could spend most of our time photographing him before he lost interest.  His shirt was handmade on Easy from ChicCouture Boutique.  I love how the suspenders and bowtie were sewed onto the shirt so that Cash wasn’t distracted by it.  The pants are and shoes are from Old Navy and went perfect with his bowtie. Then I used another bowtie I had at home for the actual cake smash part of his photoshoot because I wanted him shirtless for that portion.

Photos pre cake smash:

Thank goodness Mary Grace had some of these paper balls/poofs made because it helped Cash stay put for more than 2 seconds!

Then we set the cake down in front him fully clothed to see what he would do:

And finally, we undressed him and let him go at it! He warmed up to the cake a little by the end:

(Chris and I captioned this picture- “Where the hell’s my pancakes”?)

And as you can see, by the end of the shoot, he was OVER it.  But all in all he exceeded expectations for an 11 month old and I couldn’t be happier with how these photos turned out.  Thanks Mary Grace! If you live in the Syracuse area, go check her out!
