It always makes my heart burst when you guys ask about Cash and how he is doing with things. This community is so amazing. Just recently we transitioned him out of his crib because he was jumping out every morning and I was nervous he would get hurt. At first, the thought of putting him in a big boy bed was terrifying! It brought back all those anxious feelings you have when you first put your baby in a crib after they have slept in your room next you. Feelings like; will he go near the stairs, will he sleep walk, will he get out and start playing every hour, will he be scared?) And not to mention, where has my baby gone!?
But the reality is that babies grow and transitions happen and Cash has done amazing with this one. The first night I put him in his new bed, he was so excited but then started crying when I left his room which he never does. Totally understandable, so I just explained that this was his bed now where he sleeps and that he is such big boy. We laid together for a few minutes and he was fine. Ever since then he’s sleeps all night and then gets himself out and comes into our room in the morning!
Tips For Transitioning:
So here are my tips to get started with transition to a big boy or big girl room.
1.Take it slow.
Maybe taking it slow isn’t for everyone but I didn’t want to completely turn Cash’s room around in one day. He still had lots of familiarity in his room except for his bed being different. This is one of the reason we did a neutral nursery to begin with. Easy to transition without having to completely remodel the room in one weekend.
2. Use their interests.
Cash is really into dinosaurs and sharks right now. I found some really great Dino sheets on amazon and they make him more excited to get into bed. I also added a new T-Rex storage basket to his room as well
3. Patience.
I know it feels frustrating to regress in any way during your child’s development but sometimes regress leads to major progress! So if your child is feeling overwhelmed by the new bed/room at first, just be patient and let them figure it out for a few days! Cash used to be a 12-14 hour sleeper and now he goes to bed at 9 most nights and is up at 6am! But as long as he sleeps comfortably at night, I don’t care what time he gets up.
As you can see, I still have not switched everything out from his room yet. I use his changing table daily to get him ready because it’s the only way to tame this crazy child while trying to get dressed and out the door everyday. We will also be switching out the elephant canvas, giraffe and chandelier once we find the perfect additions! (I’ll be reposting updates on instagram stories along the way). His big boy bed is from Wayfair and is the perfect, simple boy bed. I love the size of the framing and we went with a “full” so that he can have years of use out of it. It was affordable and very easy to set up. His duvet is from Restoration Hardware and I love the plaid print. Sheets are Amazon and so affordable and soft! Shop all his bedroom details below!
